ABSTRACT
This project was able to look into the problem and career frustration among primary school teacher. This study concerned with teacher and factor affecting career frustration. This study consists of one hundred teachers from 5 selected primary schools in Abeokuta North Local Government Area. Teachers are regarded as the strong pillars of the education industry in Nigeria. It is necessary and very important; therefore that teachers should be treated very well within and outside system by improving their conditions of services. Teaching profession is quite an interesting job and it is not a trade because teachers have other criteria for opportunity their member like any other trade. These include training periods, unions and code of conduct of their members, it was found out that teachers are not satisfied with their present status in the society due to poor conditions of service. There is no job satisfaction with their present status in the society due to poor condition of service and they are not pleased especially with their welfare as well as it is assumed that teaching is a profession for the poor. It is also believed that the majority of Nigerians hate teaching profession due to the treatment melted on the teachers. In view of the fact that job satisfaction affects productivity, so government should provide the school with all necessary materials needed by the teachers to perform their duty. These should be supplied to them for higher and better productivity.
CHAPTER ONE 1.1 INTRODUCTION: BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY
Career is the progress and actions taken by a person throughout a lifetime, especially those related to that person’s occupations. A career is often composed of the jobs need, titles earned and work accomplished over a long period of time, rather than just referring to on position (Adeyemi, 2002). As the economy suffers many people are interested in finding a new career.
Sometimes like in the case of people who have lost their job or gotten laid off is a necessity. A career selecting is one of many important choice students will make in determine future plans. This decision will impact them throughout their lives.
To secure life with a good job is probably what all of us look forward choosing a career is only a small step toward that whatever career you choose at the end of the day it is security and money (Taiwo, 2002) then again several are factors that some up as some as you try to opt for career.
As you are seeking for security, you will be lead into a gamut for factors ranging from personal to financial to professional that will decide the career you choose.
You cannot really avoid anything and leave to follow the laid out path out to achieve the right career for you yet taking the right decision the necessary.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEMS
Teacher status, welfare non-payment of salaries/arrears and standard of education featured prominently in Nigeria dailies. This research works is to identify, examine and investigate into the factors affecting career frustration among primary school teachers, among these are: environmental factors personality and occupational factors.
1.3 SIGNIFICANT OF THE STUDY
The result of this finding will be of immense benefit to all primary school teachers in Abeokuta North Local Government in Ogun State to be specific and all teachers throughout the nation.
1.4 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The focus of this study shall be limited to some selected primary schools in Abeokuta North Local Government.
1.5 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The main purpose of this study is to career frustration among investigate the factor affecting career frustration among primary school teachers and also to:
i. To enhance further the spirit of enquiry and creativity in teachers.
ii. To enhance teacher commitment of the profession teaching.
iii. To find out possible solution towards the identified problems.
iv. Examine the cause of career frustration among primary school teacher.
1.6 DELIMITATION OF THE STUDY
This study was limited to primary school teacher in Abeokuta North Local Government of Ogun State.
